Suction Line Strainers
Suction line strainers are used to provide dependable protection against
sediment filtering into pumps and equipment. Ron-Vik offers a wide variety of
suction line strainers so there is a model for most applications.
The base of the suction line strainer is available in Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
or Nylon. As the chart on the reverse shows, there is a variety of standard
base fittings. Standard meshes are 20x20, 30x30, 40x36, 50x50 or 80x80 type 304
stainless steel, although Ron-Vik can customize the strainer for almost any
screen including different mesh counts and T316, brass or monel mesh.
Base Materials
Nylon: Type 6/6 black nylon is used to manufacture a base that is
extremely durable and offers a wide range of chemical compatibility.
PVC: Black vinyl plastisol (PVC) in a 70 durometer shore A is used to
manufacture bases that are flexible yet durable and economical. Note: If the
installation puts this base in direct contact with any styrene based components
please advise your customer service representative as our standard material is
not recommended.
Mesh Materials
Standard
Stainless Steel type 304: The basic stainless alloy (18% chrome, 8%
nickel) and the most extensively used to weave wire cloth. It has excellent
corrosion resistance which is satisfactory for most applications. Where no type
is specified, it is assumed that type 304 is acceptable.
Optional*
Stainless Steel type 316: The same characteristics as type 304 with an
additional 2% molybdenum to provide increased corrosion resistance to salts and
acids. In addition it has increased strength at high temperatures.
Brass: Standard brass (copper 65%, zinc 35%) has high strength and
ductility for severe cold with a mild corrosion resistance.
Monel ® alloy 400: A high nickel copper alloy which is one of the most
widely used alloys for corrosion resistance. It has the strength of a mild
steel and will not corrode in a great many solutions found in industrial
applications. *Limited availability and lead times apply.
PVC Based
A pot-molded 70 durometer Shore A Polyvinyl Chloride base is permanently bonded
to the one-piece wire cloth strainer. Common applications for PVC suction line
strainers include pool and spa equipment, water softeners, floor cleaning
machinery, pressure washers and car wash equipment.

Nylon Based
The injection molded nylon base is either bonded to the wire mesh by urethane
adhesive or in applications where the urethane adhesive is not desirable we can
adhere the screen to the base by method of induction welding*. Some of the many
markets nylon suction line strainers are used for include hydraulic systems,
paint spraying equipment, parts washers and chemical handling equipment.
Both PVC and nylon base suction line strainers can be easily removed for
cleaning or replacement. If our standard models do not meet your needs please
contact sales or customer service to discuss custom specifications and
configurations.
